In summer, Sicily burns and people take to the streets
Every summer, Sicily faces a recurring tragedy: the arson fires that devastate its territory. Tired of feeling powerless, yesterday citizens and associations gathered in Piazza Indipendenza, in front of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Sicilian Region, to demand urgent preventive measures.
People from all over the island responded: cultural associations, civic groups, and ordinary citizens wanted to show their commitment against a scourge that is too often ignored. A battle fought not only against the Mafia but also against the silence of the institutions.
This mobilization proves that Sicily does not give up. The beauty of its territory—its forests, hills, and coasts—deserves protection. Every voice, every presence in the square, is a step toward a future where wildfires are no longer an inevitable sentence.
